Canadian Citizenship Application Fees
What a Canadian citizenship application costs: the adult fee, the minor fee, what the right of citizenship fee is, and when it is refunded.

The fee is one of the few parts of a citizenship application with a single, exact answer. These figures are from IRCC's fee list, which was last updated on 21 September 2026 and checked on 23 September 2026. Fees change, so check the list on the day you pay.

What the right of citizenship fee is
The adult fee is two fees combined: a processing fee and a right of citizenship fee. The right of citizenship fee is listed on its own at $123, which makes the processing part of an adult application $530. Minors pay only the processing fee, which is why their application costs less.
When it is refunded
IRCC's ceremony page describes one situation where money comes back. If you ask to reschedule your ceremony a second time and IRCC does not consider your reason reasonable, it starts closing your application, and it refunds the right of citizenship fee to adults. Minors receive no refund in that case, because they never paid it.
If you are refused after a failed hearing, the situation is different. IRCC says you would need to apply again and pay the fees again.

A passport is not part of any of these. It is a separate application to Passport Canada after you have your certificate, with its own fees, which changed on 31 March 2026.
For a family
Each person applies and pays separately. For two adults and two children, the total is two adult fees and two minor fees: $653 × 2 + $100 × 2, which is $1,506 at the current rates.
Making the fee count
